A heat pump heats your home in the winter by taking heat that naturally exists outside even at very cold temperatures-and transferring it inside. Heat pumps cool your home in the summer by taking heat from the air inside the home and transferring it outside. 

With modest initial cost and low operating cost (1/2 to 2/3 the cost of some other heating systems), and low maintenance cost, heat pumps save money because they save energy.
